The movie business seems to be getting closer to home. Kansas was cast as an extra in a feature film titled "Walker Payne" This drama is about a charming small town man who is forced to make difficult, heartbreaking decisions in his fight to save his two daughters. Kansas Brooks who is 6 years old, was cast in a school scene that takes place in the 1957. The Producer/Writer/Director is Matt Williams (What Women Want, Where the Heart Is) Who rose to fame in the 1990s as creator of the television series “Home Improvement” Before doing the movie, I told Kansas a little about the film, and Kansas said "Dad, I don't want to wear ugly clothes" With the movie being set in the 1950's, the clothes were much different than today, and it didn't seem important whether or not they fit. We saw one little boy wearing pants that were way too short, and the dress chosen for Kansas was a little big. This scene was filmed in Hickory Grove, SC at an old school. We talked to the owner of the property, and he described how the school looked before filming. He told us that the crew came in and put a new metal fence around the school, and brought in old timey play ground equipment. When they were installing the new fence, they asked the owner if he would like to have it when they were done, and he thought "yea maybe" He said when he came in the next day, they were spray painting the fence rust brown and beating it with pipes to make it look old. Laughing, the owner of the school said, I'm not sure I want that fence now. In this school scene, they wanted Kansas and the other kids to play and just be kids. The film stars Jason Patric (The Alamo, Narc,, Rush) Speed II ) This film is scheduled to be released in 2006 After doing the film, I asked Kansas would you like to do this again? Her reply was, "If they can get me a better movie" "As I go along I learn how important clothes are to little girls."
